Friends: The One about Christ-Infused Friendships and Doing life Together

Friends was an American television show that ran for ten seasons from 1994–2004. Decades later, it remains widely popular through syndication and streaming. The show followed a group of friends in their twenties and thirties navigating life together in New York City. They shared apartments, experiences, struggles, and milestones—doing life side by side. At the heart of the show was its theme song by The Rembrandts, “I’ll Be There for You.” That phrase captured the essence of the series and is likely the reason it resonated so deeply: it told the story of people committed to showing up for one another. Friends who stayed. Friends who walked through life together. But this idea did not originate with a television show or a song. We are created for relationship—first with God, and then with each other. We are wired for community, for companionship, for connection. We need people in our lives who help us grow in our relationship with God, and we are called to be that kind of friend in return. We need friends who care, support, encourage, inspire, and celebrate one another. Friends who do not just share space but share life. While Friends gave us memorable characters like Ross, Rachel, Joey, Monica, Chandler, and Phoebe, they are far from the only examples of meaningful friendship. The Bible is filled with powerful stories that show us what true friendship looks like—relationships marked by loyalty, sacrifice, honesty, and faith. These are the kinds of friendships we are invited to build: relationships infused with the presence of God, grounded in our relationship with Jesus, and shaped by His love. Christ-infused friendships that are committed to doing life together—not just in the good moments, but in every season. Because in the end, we were never meant to do life alone. Jesus does not call us servants; He calls us friends.
